Loop the Lake 5k Race Report

A race was ran this morning.  A race I had been gearing up for and practicing speedwork for to see if I could finally go sub 23.  Well if you read Friday's post, I had decided to nix the idea of going sub 23 because I just didn't think it could happen.

Let's back this experience up to yesterday.  After I dropped Bug off at her extended-day summer camp and gotten to work, I get a call from the leader telling me Bug had gotten sick but that she thought she was going to be okay, just wanted to let me know.  Then about 30 minutes after her phone call my mom calls to tell me that my sister was being rushed to the hospital because they thought she had broken her nose but that she was having trouble turning her head after taking a NASTY fall at our local park.

Come to find out my sister only broke her nose and had some whiplash and Monkey had to be picked up because she started throwing up again.  Then last night after some friends came over the hubs started throwing up so I didn't get to bed until 11:15ish and was really nervous I wasn't going to get much sleep.

The alarm went off at 6 a.m. and I slowly got out of bed.  I sleep great considering but felt it was just too cruel to get up that early on a Saturday.  All in the name of the sport I love.  My friend got to the house around 6:30 a.m. and we set off to Lake Blackshear.

I managed to get in a warmup mile and then lined up at the start.  My main goal was to try not to go out like a bat out of hell.

Mile 1 - 7:23- Went out like a bat out of hell.
Mile 2 - 8:09 - Who put these hills out here.  They were brutal.
Mile 3 - 8:13 - After the last hill my legs were toast.
.01 - 6:01 - The course was short.
Total time: 23:49
Average pace: 7:55
Total miles: 3.01
Calories burned: 308

This race shows up short on my watch last year and this year.  Oh, well, what am I going to do.  I did manage to come in second for my age group, the girl who came in first was a minute faster.  I have another 5k race next month and with the 15.5k training fixing to start, I plan on doing my speedwork based on my 5k PR of 23:32.  Nervous already and it's only June.
