Nun Run 2011 5K Race Report

So last night before I went to bed, I looked up the weather report.  It called for rain all morning long until noon and then the rain was suppose to go away and not come back until next week.  I begged for a small drizzle and nothing hard.

I slept like crap.  I dreamed I didn't have a car, so I had to hitch hike to the race and ended up being dropped off on the wrong road and not making it to the race on time.  I then kept waking up on and off throughout the night to make sure I hadn't overslept.  I was exhausted long before the race ever started.

I usually like to have a Diet Pepsi at least an hour before any race, it's my normal, but the hubs forgot to pick me one up at the store last night and we were all out here at home, so that meant stopping at the convenient store on the way for my caffeine kick.  Once that was taken care of, I ate a Lunar Bar, drank my diet pepsi and got to the race a full hour before it started.

I picked up my goodie bag which also had my Run and See Georgia award for coming in 10th place in my age group.  It's a plaque, so I'm thinking of hanging it on my wall in my bedroom.  I'll post a picture after its hung.

Anywho, I did a mile warmup in 9:20, just warming up and stretching the legs out.  At 8:15 I took my Gatorade Pre-Fuel and then we were all told to head to the start line.  As we were standing at the start waiting for it to begin, a girl I notice at all the races came up to me and asked what pace I was aiming for.  I told her somewhere in the 8's.  We then talked race strategies and half marathon times and such and then the director yelled go and we were off.

Mile 1 - 7:51 - Perfect pace and the girl that asked me about my pace was beside me.  Then a good song with some great beat came on and I just got into my grove.

Mile 2 - 8:12 - Feeling pretty good but some of the hills were starting to get to me.  This wasn't the flattest course but I did my best to get through them.

Mile 3 - 8:08 - At this point I was getting closer to the girl I had been chasing.  I saw her at the first mile and tried to get her but she had a good ways on me then so I just hit the cruise control button and just ran.

.10 - 7:09 - Now at the finish I was on the girl's behind but then all of a sudden I saw someone come up beside me.  Me thinking to myself that I wasn't going to let anyone get passed me, tried to turn on the afterburners but he somehow got in front of me and we actually all three passed the finish line together.  When I saw who it was that past me at the end, I couldn't help but joke with him.  It was my younger boss's friend who said he was going to try and beat me.  Crazy, he did by only like a second.

 Total miles: 3.1
Total time: 24:51
Age group award - First place.

Then I did a cool down mile in 9:13.  So overall I did a little over 5 miles today.  It felt great and I think I'm going to incorporate the warmup and cool down miles into all my races from now on.

I really did enjoy this race and will be doing it again next year.

My next race is the Snicker's half on March 5, then I'll do a 5K on March 12.  Back-to-back racing, I'm really looking forward to it.

Tomorrow I'm going to post my workout schedule, so you guys can hold me accountable for getting out and getting it in.

Have a great rest of the weekend.

Angela :)
