Good news/bad news

So I went to the doctor this morning and the diagnoses is I have totally trashed my muscles in my hip and that is what is causing the pain.  I have to start physical therapy on Thursday and I have to start cross training.  When they allow me to start running again I'm only going to be able to go so far and then make up the rest of the miles using a different method (i.e. biking, swiming, etc.)

So good news is I will be able to toe the line at the Girl's Inc. Half Marathon on October 16, bad news is I have to slow down my running and figure out a way to make my training work with an injury.  He told me that it's going to hurt but I'm going to have to learn how to train while hurt.  Muscles take forever to heal once they are messed up.

I teared up over it while talking to the hubs about it but quickly got over it.  I'm not down and out completely.  I can still exercise and in due time I'll be back to running.  We already have plans in the work to get my bike out and make sure that it is in working order so I can start riding it again.  I also plan to start hitting the weights.

Thanks for all the wonderful comments you guys have left regarding me whining on and on about my hip.  I'm over it.  I'll do the PT, I'll start cross training like I'm suppose to and I'll be back out there running again.  The Lord has blessed me to do something that I love, He just had to show me that my body can only take so much and I need to respect that.

I plan on maybe running 2 to 3 miles on Saturday morning and then heading over to the gym and getting in the rest of my miles on the bike for a total of 10.  My doctor told me that I can run until it is uncomfortable, but once I feel the pain, stop and do something else to get in the miles.

I'm planning on posting my revised training schedule next week, let's just hope I stick to it.

Angela :)

  1. Sorry to hear about your hip. Its good that you can still run a bit though and make up the rest cross training. Hopefully physical therapy helps you recover quickly. :)

  2. Sorry to hear about your hip but at least you know what it is and can fix it! Plus you can still run on the 16th which is great!

  3. sounds like a good plan. heal and get back out there!

  4. I had the same thing happen with my hip last summer and I ended up taking a while month off before getting an apt with my doctor and then Orthopedic and PT. It turned out that my knee pain was just a weak hip and so I did PT and it got better and then I got back to running. I saw drastic improvement in just two weeks (going one a week to PT and doing exercises every day by myself). i am sure you will be healed up and good to go soon!
