I have many goals for this weekend's race. Considering I've never ran a 12K before I'm pretty stoked to add new race mileage and a PR to my running resume. I'm also pretty stoked that I automatically get a PR because I've never ran a 12K before.
With all that said, I do have four goals in mind:
D. To finish the race. I know most runners have that goal in mind. We all go into a race wanting to finish.
C. To finish in 1:15:00. To achieve this goal a 10:03 pace is what I need to run it at. I will be happy with this time but I know I can go faster than this.
B. To finish in 1:10:00. To achieve this goal I would have to run a 9:23 pace. This is something I know I can do and will not be to terribly upset with myself if I do it.
A. My ultimate goal is to finish the 12K in ONE HOUR even. This means running an 8:02 pace. I can run in the low 8's but I can't hold that pace for 7 miles. Hell I can't hold that pace for 3 miles. I'm going to try and push myself to this time frame but I know I will not be disappointed in myself if I don't get it.
So these are my goals. The last one is the toughest and I'm just not sure I can do it, but I'm going to give it all I have. I didn't go running this morning. My legs are feeling better but I did turn my ankle wrong while cutting the grass last night, so I'm hoping that by Saturday morning it will feel better.
Enter nerves. I get this way before all races no matter how big or small they are.
Those are great goals! Enjoy your run this weekend :-)
